If your day has a full schedule, stopping back home to change your entire outfit when it’s time to hit the town just seems like a hassle. It’s even more stressful when you don’t know exactly what you’re going to wear later, or the outfit you planned on doesn’t look the way you thought it would.
I have been there many times. And because I’m ridiculous and over-dramatic, I’ve even considered cancelling plans because I can’t find anything to wear.
Strategically planning an outfit that goes from day to night will save you the trouble. I got the inspiration for this particular outfit when I wore it to my sister’s high school graduation. I didn’t exactly go from “day to night” but I realized it would be super easy to dress down if I needed to.
If I know I’m going to have little down time, or I just don’t want to change twice, my go-to day to night would be this coral open back dress from Downtown Divas. The dress by itself paired with some sandals or flats is perfect to wear on a lunch date or a daytime shopping trip. Its bright color, open back, and lightweight feeling make it a perfect choice for Summer, too.
When I’m ready to transition to my nighttime activities, all I need to do to this dress is throw on some heels and accessories. I felt like gold would complement the bright coral color really well, so I went all-gold for the accessories.
I hit the accessory jackpot at Target. That’s where I got the headband, rings, earrings, and necklaces, all in one visit! The necklaces are actually two separate ones that I doubled up, and each of them came with a set of earrings, way to go Target. And as always, I’m wearing my watch. I got lucky that it just so happens to be gold.
I’m not wearing any in these pictures, but for shoes, brown, white or subtle gold pumps would be my first choice. As soon as I have those on and touch up my make-up I’m ready to head downtown.
This trick works with just about any dress, making dresses great day to night outfits. All you need to do is exchange your flats for heels, add some accessories, and glam up your hair and make up a little bit and you’re good to go!
I really need to take my own advice more often, so I’ll be sure to think of this post next time I’m stressing about a busy day.
dress well. eat well. live well.
