Lipstick // beauty post of the month

Hey Babes,

I know I waited until the very last minute to do this month’s beauty post, but it was worth it because I love the product I’m about to talk about.

Liquid lipsticks are one of the hottest products on the makeup market right now, thanks to Kylie Jenner’s Kylie’s Cosmetics. Kylie’s Cosmetics features her “lip kits,” which are basically a liquid lipstick and a matching lip liner, and if you follow her on Snapchat, you know she’s always promoting different shades.

But Kylie’s Cosmetics isn’t the only place where you can get a liquid lipstick. Many makeup brands, from drug store to high end, have come out with liquid lipsticks. During my latest trip to Sephora, I picked up one of Kat Von D’s many shades of liquid lipstick.

As an avid lipstick wearer, you would think I would’ve hopped on the liquid lipstick trend a long time ago, but I just never got around to buying one. I finally made it my mission to invest in a liquid lipstick the next time I went shopping for makeup.

I didn’t really do a lot of research beforehand on which brands were better than others, but I knew I didn’t want to go to Kylie’s Cosmetics. All of the bad reviews and ingredient comparisons aside, I like to try on makeup, especially lipstick, before I buy it. That way, I can see if I like the way the shade and finish looks on me. If I’m paying $30 for a lipstick, I want to know that I love it.

As I was walking around Sephora looking for a display of liquid lipsticks that look appealing, I came across Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. I was immediately drawn to the intense packaging. It’s a thin clear tube with black floral designs on the top, which are extensions to the silver floral designs on the black cap.

The overall selection of colors was also very bold and vibrant, and they looked extra intense because they were all placed next to each other for the display. All of the shades looked so good I didn’t know which one I wanted to try, so I swatched a few of them and my decision became even harder. They went on creamy, dried matte, and were really pigmented.

After trying some on, I went with the shade called “DAMNED,” which is shown in my first two pictures. In the package, it looks like a dark brown, but it actually dries as a dark purple that I’m in love with.

The first time I actually wore it, I decided to wear it on a day when my first class started at 8 am, so I could test out the length of the wear and how well it holds up against walking from place to place in the Florida humidity.

I used the brush included to apply the product, but I wish I would’ve used one of my other lip brushes. It’s an average brush that you would see in many lip glosses, and while it is not bad, it was hard to get the small crevices of my lips and make even lines. I felt like I had to try really hard to stay within my lip lines because the smallest wrong movement would cause me to go too low, although it might have been a little harder for me because I have small lips and used a clear lip liner.

However once I got it on the way I liked it, I was really happy with the results. What I liked even more was the fact that everything was still in place after I ate. Usually whenever I eat or drink something with lipstick on, the color gets all over whatever I take a bite or sip of, and by the time I’m done the color has worn off.

With this lipstick, none of the color rubbed off on food or straws, and it was still as intense as it was when I first applied it. But although none of the color rubbed onto anything, I noticed that some of the color on the inside of my lip came off as I was drinking an iced coffee. I’m pretty sure that the straw had something to do with it, but I’m not complaining because I only had to reapply once all day, even after standing in the heat for a few hours promoting a club I’m in on campus. It’s currently almost 9 pm, and the color still looks intense. I’m more than satisfied considering the fact that I reapplied at about noon.

My pictures are not the best quality since I took them with my phone throughout the day, but I tried to capture the results as best as I could.

I think liquid lipsticks have won me over. If you’re looking for one, I highly suggest Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick line. You can get it for $20 at Sephora, and there’s several shades to choose from. I only have one, but I definetly don’t want to keep it that way.

dress well. eat well. live well.

xx,

Addie
