Tips // what to do with the pieces you never wear

Hey Babes!

Imagine this: you’re out shopping, and you spot a GORGEOUS piece that you have to have. So, you purchase it, thinking you’ll wear it all the time and that it might become a staple item in your wardrobe. However, the reality is, that the said piece just sits in your closet. Not because you don’t like it, but because you have nothing to wear with it.

How many of those items do you have sitting in your closet right now? Probably at least one, right? I know I do. What if I gave you a way to utilize those pieces you have nothing to wear with? Well, I’m about to. This week’s post is going to be all about how to put the clothing items that just sit in your closet to good use. And all it takes is just one simple trick!

Here’s the hack: next time you look at an item of clothing and think “I have nothing to wear with this,” stop, lay the piece down, and build and outfit around it. It’s easier to build an outfit around something that you think doesn’t go with anything in your wardrobe than to try to pair it with an already existing outfit.

When I bought these Sam Edelman shoes from Bloomingdale’s, I was super excited. They were totally my style, and I thought I was going to wear them all the time because they went with the vibe of a lot of clothes in my wardrobe. To my surprise, I’ve only worn them once since I bought them, and that was to try them on.

The main reason I haven’t worn the Sam Edelman shoes is because they “don’t go” with any of my outfits. However, when I laid them out on my bed, and styled an outfit around them, it made a major difference. I was able to find something to actually wear them with and I don’t feel like I just bought them for no reason.

When trying to decide what would go well with these shoes, I really took the color into consideration. White goes with everything, but especially the pink on these shoes. That’s why I chose a white tank top with mom shorts to wear with the Sam Edelman shoes. Also, the silver in the necklace really matches the details in eye of the shoe, which is why I chose that particular one.

This is a nice outfit to showcase the shoes because there’s not a lot going on up top, so when the eyes move downward, they’ll stay there, especially because this pair of shoes makes a statement.

When trying to create an outfit based on one item, it really helps if you physically lay the piece down, or hang it up somewhere. That way, you can really imagine what goes with it. It also helps to look at the color scheme in the item, like I did with the Sam Edelman shoes, and try to match colors to other pieces in your wardrobe.

So, before you get rid of an item you never wear because you think it doesn’t go with anything, lay it down and see what you can come up with, you might surprise yourself.

I hope you enjoyed this post Babes!
