Summertime is vacation-time for many, and while exploring a new (or old) place can be a wonderful experience, it can be stressful as well. A lot of times, the stress can come from packing. What do you bring? And how much? And if you’re flying, there’s a good chance there’s a weight limit for your suitcase. Ugh. I’m the queen of overpacking. I’ll bring 15 outfits for a 3 day trip, and that doesn’t include my makeup and toiletries, I mean, you have to have options right?
On top of WHAT to bring, there’s the question of what to put it all IN. You’re probably thinking “a suitcase, duh,” but when it comes to things like your passport, wallet, and other things you might need right on hand, you’re going to want to put those into something else.
There’s something that’s been trending for awhile that’s perfect for all of your carry on items: the mini backpack.
I love mini backpacks because they’re a hands-free way to store all of your belongings. You don’t have to worry about holding onto your purse, or it hitting your sides while you walk. Plus, they come in such a variety of styles, it’d be hard to find one that didn’t suit your personality.
I bought this clear mini backpack at Urban Outfitters for my trip to Universal Studios a few months ago, which I ended up not using because I would’ve had a bunch of money floating around in there, but that’s another story. I really wish I would’ve been able to use it though because it would’ve been so much easier to carry than my tiny cross body bag I tried to shove everything in. The good thing about this specific backpack being clear is that a lot of events, football game, etc. are now asking for clear bags, so this is a way to get in in style. This mini backpack, also from Urban Outfitters, is similar to mine, and it’s only $34!
Another thing about mini backpacks, is that they can really help you declutter and only pack what you absolutely NEED. Since you have a limited amount of space, it will be easier to avoid clutter and only carry the necessities. The main bag I use is really big, and it tends to get cluttered very easily because there’s so much space. I don’t have the same problem with mini backpacks.
However, the one downside to mini backpacks is that since your bag is behind you, you won’t have an eye on your belongings. This can be a problem if you’re going to be in a place where there is a large amount of theft and/or pick pocketing. I know pick pocketing is a big deal in Europe (believe me, the tour guide would not let us forget it), but no matter where you are, you want to be aware of your surroundings and just be careful out there, not to be a Debbie Downer, but stay safe!
Other than that, how could you not love mini backpacks? They’re just so cute, and well, mini! Plus, they make a statement, so while wearing one, you’ll be looking cute and stylish wherever you go.
Below are some links to my favorite mini backpacks! Enjoy!
