TBT // slap bracelets

Hey Babes!

Welcome back to TBT! While a lot of 90’s fashion trends have seemed to make a comeback, chokers, nude lips, butterfly clips, etc., there’s still one thing from my childhood that hasn’t seem to make a return, and that is slap bracelets. You probably do, but in case you don’t know, a slap bracelet is a bracelet that folds out and in order to place it around your wrist, you have to slap it on your wrist. You don’t have to slap very hard, just a small tap, but it is still kind of scary the way it “magically” encircles your wrist. Just check out the GIF below.

Cool right?

Pictured above is this silicone watch snap bracelet. I have no idea where I got this, but I found it while cleaning my room. The cool thing about this slap bracelet/watch, is that the watch piece comes off, so you can wear it like a normal bracelet. Just don’t lose the watch attachment!

Where did the slap bracelet come from? Well a teacher from Wisconsin actually invented it, and it went by the name “Slap Wrap.” Interesting right? The other interesting thing is that slap bracelets were banned in a lot of schools. I don’t remember them ever being banned at any of my schools, but the ones that did ban them probably did so so that they wouldn’t be a distraction in class or so kids wouldn’t hurt each other with them. Kids those days. Seesh.

If you look hard enough, you can still find slap bracelets here in 2019. Below are some of my top picks.

As you can see, a lot of the designs are really child-like, and not something you would wear as an adult or in a professional setting. Out of the slap bracelets I pictured, I would probably only wear the fur one (the first one), and even then, it’s a maybe. Nevertheless, it’s still fun to reminisce on these fun bracelets! If you need a goodie bag idea for a kid’s birthday party, these would be a great item, especially because a lot of times, you can get them in bulk.

Do you remember slap bracelets? Did you have one? LMK
