As usual, this week’s TBT is super nostalgic for me, because I used to love wearing it and it’s definitely something from my childhood that made me who I am today. And that trend is. . . . Baby Phat!
When I was in second grade, I went to Burlington Coat Factory (now it’s just called Burlington) with my best friend and her mom, and, that’s where I was introduced to the glorious brand called Baby Phat. There was an entire section of it, and my friend’s mom went HAM.
Back then, I didn’t really care for brands, or really know the history behind them. As an 8 year old, you could really care less. But now, after doing some research, I know that Baby Phat was created by the American model Kimora Lee Simmons in 1998.
I know I had at least a couple of Baby Phat pieces, but they’re long gone now. And, I doubt they would even fit 24 year old me. That’s why I was super excited when I saw a mesh leopard print Baby Phat shirt in Forever 21 the other day.
I like matching colors, so I paired it with a pair of black shorts from Caroline Hill. But, you could also wear it with mom shorts or distressed jeans, tucked or untucked. I think the jean shorts make for a better summer look, because black is worn more in the cooler months, but I still like it either way. Since this shirt is made out of a mesh material, it would be a good workout shirt as well. You could wear it with bike shorts, which are also in right now, or a pair of Lululemon workout pants.
This shirt is part of Forever 21’s collaboration Baby Phat x Forever 21, and they have a lot of great pieces such as this pink metallic jogger set, this Baby Phat logo mini skirt, and these leopard print bike shorts. And, If you like the shirt I’m wearing, it’s only $17.90 at F21!
Do you remember Baby Phat? How do you feel about its new collaboration with Forever 21? Let me know in the comments!
